GenScript/RunScript

GenScript and RunScript are programs that enable one to easily develop and use record-translation "scripts" which can translate EBCDIC, packed-decimal, integer, floating-point and other types of specially-formatted fields. We've received rave reviews* from clients who've used these programs. GenScript provides a nice intuitive interface for "hacking" through a raw file and setting up translations which are later used by RunScript.

File GS.exe is a single-file setup program for installing the latest full version of the script generator program, including a help file that describes the Generator, the Runner and the Script Language as a whole. It is a 32-bit program and will work on virtually any version of 32-bit Windows from 98se through XP. Here's a peek at the GenScript main screen. Note that as you tell GenScript how to interpret your input data, it shows you on the lower part of the screen exactly how the translation will come out. You can even skip around in the input file to see how various records will be converted.

It also includes a readme file which you should check. This describes a sample GenScript Project and some sample data to try it on.

Copybook/Layout Handling.  New versions of GenScript and RunScript are in the works, plus a new utility named Lay2GS. The new program is extremely useful if you have mainframe (COBOL) "copybook" descriptions of the files to be converted. This program will largely automate the process of turning the layout into a GenScript project. Here's a quick look at the operator interface:

File RS.exe is the setup utility for the RunScript program. Until registered, RunScript is limited to 10 records at a time, but will give you a good idea how the full product works. You can register it and convert it to full functionality for $249. You can call with credit card information, or perform the transaction online by clicking below. You'll then receive an "unlock code" to completely enable the program. The license is associated with a particular PC, but can be moved from one PC to another. RunScript is easy to use, powerful and very fast.

Licensing: Note that only RunScript requires a license key. (GenScript is "freeware".) When you install a new version of RunScript on the same PC--even if you uninstall the older version first--the new version will "find" and use the RunScript license that's on your PC. With newer versions of RunScript, you can install copies on multiple PC's, and move the license from one to another. If you need full RunScript use simultaneously, then you must purchase additional licenses.
